After appointing AVIAREPS as its India Representative in August last year, VISIT FLORIDA has been focusing on tapping the Leisure and MICE segments. The tourism board is promoting the destination around its new campaign, ?Must be the Sunshine,? which was launched earlier this year, and plans to increase awareness about the destination and product knowledge among the Indian travel trade. The tourism board organised its maiden FAM trip for Indian travel agents recently, and also plans to introduce its Florida Specialist online training programme for the travel trade in India. ? ?It is too early to give a time frame for the launch of the online training programme but it is certainly part of the initiatives that are in the pipeline for the Indian market. The existing Florida Specialist online training programme for various markets will be specially adapted for the Indian market. The travel trade is our strongest selling partner in the market and our efforts are focused on increasing their destination and product knowledge,? stated Seldon Tenzing, Account Director-India, VISIT FLORIDA. She added that while Florida with its world-class theme parks, beautiful beaches, entertainment, culinary and shopping options, has always been an attractive travel proposition for Indian families, the tourism board is emphasising on showcasing Orlando, Miami and Space Coast which includes Kennedy Space Centre. These destinations were showcased to representatives from Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. Mercury Travels, Kesari Travels, Saltours International and Vacation Exotica on the seven-day FAM trip. The objective was to enhance awareness and update the participants on Florida and its offerings. The group visited Miami for three nights, spent one night at Cocoa Beach with a day visit to the Kennedy Space Centre and three nights in Orlando. The trip included visits to exciting theme parks such as Sea World, Universal Studios and Walt Disney World in Orlando and other attractions in Miami such as the Bayside Cruise and Jungle Island. Talking about the initiatives to be undertaken during this fiscal year, Tenzing said, ?We will plan another trade FAM and will be participating in the Brand USA India Mission in September 2013 and combine it with a VIP signature event in Mumbai. Apart from this we will continue our ongoing effort of conducting sales calls in different cities and engage the travel trade through seminars and training events.? Apart from Mumbai and Delhi, our primary markets, we are also tapping other cities. In the past six months we conducted seminars, training programmes and sales calls in cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. We also participated as Visit Orlando in the Delhi VUSACOM chapter event and plan to work closely with the VUSACOM Committee on future events,? informed Tenzing.
