Consumer Alert: Pet Food Recalled Due to Salmonella Fears ...

Natura pet foods is advising consumers to discard pet food from six product lines if they have expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

A manufacturer is asking pet owners to check their dog and cat food because it might have been tainted by salmonella.

The Natura Pet Products brand, sold at veterinarian's offices, specialty pet stores and online, is concerned that some of dry food could have been affected.

The Natura lines under recall are:

?
  • Innova dog and cat food, including biscuits, bars and treats.
  • EVO dry dog, cat and ferret food, including biscuits, bars and treats.
  • California Natural dry dog and cat food, including biscuits, bars and treats.?
  • Healthwise dry dog and cat food.
  • Karma dry dog food.
  • Mother Nature biscuits, bars and treats.

According to a June news release by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a routine check found one lot had been tainted, but Natura is calling for food with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014 to be discarded.

There have been no reports of sick pets, so far according to the FDA. Symptoms would include being lethargic and having ?diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain,? the agency said.

The FDA also advises people to wash their hands if they have handled the products to avoid being sickened themselves.

Natura can be called at 800-224-6123 for more information or on how to get a refund.
