Sony Ericsson teamed up with Box.net last year to offer its customers 50GB of free cloud storage. The two companies have since changed their names to Sony Mobile and Box, but both sides have decided to continue their partnership into next year.
Sony and Box today jointly announced that they will continue offering free online storage to anyone who purchases a Sony Xperia smartphone or tablet. New and existing Box members who access the Android app from an Xperia device will have their accounts upgraded to include 50GB of free storage that will be accessible for life. Users will be able to access their photos or documents stored online, and backup their device content to the cloud.
Box will offer free storage to Sony customers who activate the Box Android app on their smartphone at any point before December 31, 2013. Existing Xperia phones released after the Xperia X10 - with the exception of the X10 mini, X10 mini pro, or any device still running Android 2.1 - can access the Box app in Google Play.
