Prosperity Series 1: What is Your Focus On?Scarcity or Abundance ...

You?re In Control of Your Success

Clunker vs Mercedes

Is your hidden, subconscious attention on the clunker or the Mercedes Benz?

Your prosperity depends on your focus. Some people focus on scarcity while a growing minority focus on abundance. It might surprise you that a great many people who hunger for prosperity are actually focusing on the opposite. ?What?? you may ask. ?Are they cracked?? The trouble is, they don?t realise they?re doing it.

The Law of Attraction has been around throughout human existence. Some of our greatest thinkers have used this deliberately?Plato, Shakespeare, Newton, Beethoven, Hugo, Lincoln, Emerson, Edison and Einstein.

Just like gravity, it doesn?t care if you believe in it or not. But think about this for a moment. With the Law of Gravity, delusion could prove fatal. Imagine thumbing your nose at gravity while stepping off a 30-story building. With the Law of Attraction, delusion could keep you struggling while others around you thrive. The Law of Attraction states that what you put your attention on you attract into your life. That?s why most successful people become more and more prosperous, while most of the poorer folk amongst us continue to struggle.

Mountain Climber

A mountain climber seemingly defies gravity, but they know it?s certain death if they don?t respect the Law of Gravity.

Every successful person uses it, whether or not they?re conscious of it. I used the Law of Attraction for forty years before I knew what it was called. My use of it started out rather hit-or-miss. I didn?t know what direction I wanted to go. But wouldn?t you like to have greater control over your own direction in life? Understanding these principles is critical to that desire.

What you need to do to use the Law of Attraction is simple.

  1. Ask?Simply write down, as specific as you can, exactly what you want to achieve. This is just like ?goal setting.? And if you?re uncomfortable with setting goals, we have a refresher in part 5, but include some vital new stuff you may not know.
  2. Answer? Here, you don?t need to do anything. The universe handles this part for you. This is where inspiration or serendipity occur. This is where opportunity presents itself.
  3. Receive? What you have to do here is to prepare yourself to receive that for which you have asked. Some people sabotage themselves by focusing on something entirely different and giving up. Or like so many lottery winners, they are uncomfortable with all their winnings and fritter them away.

It?s All in the Focus

The mind is a powerful tool. What makes it frustrating sometimes is that people can think and say one thing, but end up doing something entirely different.

There are two types of consciousness at work, here:

  • Conscious Awareness
  • Subconscious Attention

Have you ever been so busy in some activity that you utterly miss the fact that you scraped your arm or banged your thigh against the furniture? Later, you may see the bruise or the scrape and wonder where that came from and when that happened. Your awareness and attention were on something else entirely. But awareness and attention are rarely on the same thing, at least for most people.

Have you ever had a nagging pain that you forced out of your conscious mind, because you had an urgent project to complete? That pain snares your attention while your conscious awareness cranks away on the project. You may grow completely unaware of the pain as it becomes a dull throb in the background of your mind.

Now, consider what happens when your awareness is on completing your urgent project, but your attention is on missing the deadline. This is frequently called ?worry,? and it kills more projects than you can count.

Whatever your attention is focused on you tend to get more of. This is the Law of Attraction at work.

Awareness versus Attention

Awareness is ?straight ahead? into consciousness. Attention, on the other hand, is off to the side, at the periphery, in the subconscious. This is where reality is created.

Here are some other examples:

  • Your conscious awareness wishes for prosperity, but your attention is focused on massive debt. These two ideas are incompatible, and guess which one wins?debt!
  • Awareness longs for a meaningful relationship, but your attention is focused on loneliness. If you guess the result is more loneliness, pat yourself on the back.
  • Awareness hopes to be trim and healthy, but your attention is focused on being overweight. This is called ?self-sabotage.?

It?s a fact that behaviour is driven by beliefs. But now beliefs are held in place by subconscious feelings. And your results are controlled largely by your behaviour. So, if you can control your subconscious feelings, you can have greater control over your results.

You may consciously know how to make a prosperous living, but your attention may focus on some self-sabotaging subconscious feeling like, ?rich people are evil,? ?money is too materialistic,? or ?I don?t deserve prosperity.? The problem is that you may not be consciously aware of the underlying feeling.

One motivational speaker had called this subconscious activity, ?background chatter.? Becoming aware of this area of the mind for the first time startled me. While standing in the shower, one morning, I heard that little voice in the background of my thoughts telling me how I would be late and that I would not amount to much. I couldn?t believe I was harbouring such feelings.

Instead of laughing off the idea and ignoring those negative feelings, I pulled them fully into the light of conscious awareness and took a good look at them. I acknowledged them and then dismissed them, but not before first replacing them with something far more positive??I?m always on time and I excel at everything I do.? Frequently, it will take repetition to build a new habit?a new paradigm for your subconscious.

But one thing that many of the self-help gurus forget to mention is that positive thinking and affirmations are not enough. You have to feel the desired end result. In other words, you have to start living as if you?re already there. This doesn?t mean maxing out your credit card. It does mean, though, doing everything you can to maintain the feeling of success.

Some Techniques for Maintaining Focus on Success and Abundance

Symbol of business success -- skyscraper.

Skyscraper is a symbol of success.

In business, prosperity means abundance?lots of customers, lots of sales and lots of resources to keep the pipeline filled and the enterprise growing.

So how do you keep your focus of attention on the abundance you deserve? Here are some suggestions:

  • Ask yourself what such abundance would feel like, and then hold that feeling in your mind. Do this for a minute or two several times per day. Practice it until the feeling becomes a natural part of your life.
  • How would such a successful person behave? How would they walk and talk? Practice doing this.
  • What do you picture yourself having as a result of your new abundance? If it?s an expensive new car, then go test drive that car. Take your camera along and with you behind the wheel, have the salesperson take several pictures of you waving to the camera. Make it real. Take the pictures home and put them up on your wall or on a ?vision board? to document all of your goals.
  • Walk into a skyscraper like you own the place. Feel good? Feel strange? Keep practicing until it feels natural. Be sure and dress the part.

The worst thing you could do is to focus your attention on what you don?t want. If you have debt, set up an automatic debt payment plan, and then forget about the debt. You need to focus on your prosperity.

Coming up Next

In the next part of this series, we?ll look at some amazingly counterintuitive aspects of your mind. And your mind is, after all, your single greatest asset.

Master regulator of skin development discovered

ScienceDaily (Dec. 2, 2012) ? The surface of your skin, called the epidermis, is a complex mixture of many different cell types -- each with a very specific job. The production, or differentiation, of such a sophisticated tissue requires an immense amount of coordination at the cellular level, and glitches in the process can have disastrous consequences. Now, researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine have identified a master regulator of this differentiation process.

"Disorders of epidermal differentiation, from skin cancer to eczema, will affect roughly one-half of Americans at some point in their lifetimes," said Paul Khavari, MD, PhD. "Understanding how this differentiation occurs has enormous implications, not just for the treatment of disease, but also for studies of tissue regeneration and even stem cell science." Khavari is the Carl J. Herzog Professor and chair of the Department of Dermatology.

Khavari and his colleagues have found that, like a traffic cop motioning cars to specific parking spaces in a large, busy lot, a newly identified molecule called TINCR is required to direct precursor cells down pathways toward particular developmental fates. It does so by binding to and stabilizing differentiation-specific genetic messages called messenger RNAs. Blocking TINCR activity, the researchers found, stopped the differentiation of all epidermal cells.

"This is an entirely unique mechanism, which sheds light on a previously invisible portion of the regulation of this process," said Khavari, who is also a member of the Stanford Cancer Institute and chief of the dermatology service at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. He is the senior author of the research, published online Dec. 2 in Nature. Former Stanford postdoctoral scholar Markus Kretz, PhD, is the first author. Kretz is now an assistant professor of biology at the University of Regensburg in Germany.

Surprisingly, this coordinator extraordinaire is not a protein. (Proteins have traditionally been thought to be the primary movers and shakers in a cell, although that view is now changing somewhat.) Instead, it belongs to a relatively new, and increasingly influential, class of regulatory molecules called long, non-coding RNAs, or lncRNAs. These molecules are so named because they do not carry instructions to make proteins. They are also longer than other regulatory RNAs known as microRNAs.

But even among lncRNAs, TINCR, and its role in epidermal differentiation, is unique.

"This work revealed a new role for regulatory RNAs in gene activation -- by stabilizing select messenger RNA transcripts," said co-author Howard Chang, MD, PhD, professor of dermatology. "This finding highlights the ability of regulatory RNAs to fine-tune gene expression."

The researchers identified the molecule by looking for RNAs that are more highly expressed in differentiating epidermal cells called keratinocytes than in progenitor cells. They found that levels of TINCR (short for "terminal differentiation-induced non-coding RNA") expression were 150 times greater in the keratinocytes. But to figure out what TINCR was doing, they had to develop two new assays: one to help researchers identify interactions between RNA molecules, and another to suss out interactions between a regulatory RNA and its protein partners. Such techniques will become increasingly important as researchers continue to identify the critical regulatory roles played by RNA molecules.

"These long, non-coding RNAs don't have recognizable, classic motifs like proteins do," said Khavari. "And yet, we really need to know with what other molecules they may be physically interacting to truly understand their biological roles."

The first approach, which the researchers termed RIA-Seq, couples an RNA interaction assay with a deep-sequencing technique to identify RNA partners of TINCR. Using RIA-Seq, the researchers found that TINCR and its RNA partners -- many of which encode instructions for proteins essential to the differentiation process -- share a common, short sequence that mediates their binding.

"These conserved, complementary motifs may help TINCR pair up with and stabilize its partner messenger RNAs," said Khavari. "In this way, TINCR may serve as a scaffold for many mRNAs involved in epidermal differentiation."

The second approach used a grid, or microarray, of 9,400 human proteins to which the researchers exposed TINCR. One of the proteins, termed STAU1, bound strongly to TINCR. STAU1 had not previously been implicated in epidermal differentiation, but the researchers found that blocking its activity prevented differentiation in a manner similar to blocking TINCR.

"This effect is quite specific for epidermal tissue," said Khavari, "and it suggests that nature has evolved a simple mechanism to control the tissue-specific expression of a large number of genes. We'd like to understand more about this TINCR-STAU1 complex to get a better idea of how it acts at a biochemical level."

In addition to identifying a unique role for a new lncRNA in epidermal differentiation, Khavari and Chang said they are excited to have developed new tools to understand how these regulatory RNAs function in the cells. "This really helps substantially expand our tool kit that we can use to analyze how RNAs and proteins interact," said Khavari.

Other Stanford researchers involved in the study include senior scientists Zurab Siprashvili, PhD, and Kun Qu, PhD; graduate students Ci Chu, Dan Webster, Ashley Zehnder, Ryan Flynn, Abigail Groff, Grace Kim and Jennifer Chow; and postdoctoral scholars Carolyn Lee, MD, PhD, Ross Flockhart, PhD, Robert Spitale, PhD, and Grace Zheng, PhD.

Blocked by Islamist crowds, Egypt's top court suspends work

Supporters of President Morsi prevented judges Sunday from entering the courthouse where they were set to rule on the legitimacy of a disputed constitutional assembly.

By Hamza Hendawi,?Associated Press / December 2, 2012

A demonstrator chants slogans as several thousand supporters of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi surrounded the Supreme Constitutional Court on Sunday to prevent the judges from entering and ruling on the legitimacy of the nation's Islamist-dominated constituent assembly. A ruling from the court was postponed ? but regardless of which way it goes ? would be a direct challenge to Morsi, who last month gave himself near absolute powers.

Egypt's?top court said it was suspending its work indefinitely to protest "psychological and physical pressures" after supporters of the country's Islamist president prevented judges from entering the courthouse Sunday to rule on the legitimacy of a disputed constitutional assembly.

The court's decision is the latest turn in a worsening political crisis pitting President Mohammed Morsi and his Islamist allies against the mostly secular opposition. The standoff began when Morsi issued a package of decrees on Nov. 22 that gave him sweeping powers and extended immunity from the courts to a panel tasked with drafting a new constitution. (For more on why the draft constitution is so controversial, see our explainer.)

The Islamist-dominated panel then raced in a marathon session last week to vote on the new charter's 230 clauses without the participation of liberal and Christian members. The fast-track hearing preempted a decision expected from the court on Sunday on whether to dissolve the committee ??a ruling the judges postponed on Sunday.

Morsi on Saturday announced a referendum on the draft charter for Dec. 15, despite opposition protests and questions about the document's legitimacy.

"It is the Egyptian judiciary's blackest day on record," the court said in a statement carried by the official MENA news agency, describing the scene outside the court complex, with Islamists carrying banners denouncing the tribunal and some of its judges.

Brothers: Judges are Mubarak loyalists

Supporters of Morsi, who hails from the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, claim that the court's judges are loyalists of ousted president Hosni Mubarak, who appointed them to their positions, and are trying to derail the country's transition to democratic rule.

The court statement said the judges approached the court but decided against entering the building because they feared for their safety.

"The judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court were left with no choice but to announce to the glorious people of?Egypt?that they cannot carry out their sacred mission in this charged atmosphere," the statement said.

The judges also were expected to rule to on the legitimacy of the Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament, known as the Shura Council.

By suspending its work, the court joined the country's highest appeals court and its sister lower court in their indefinite strike to protest what they see as Morsi's infringement on the judiciary. Most judges and prosecutors in the country have been on strike for a week.

Advertising for Educational Institutions

Advertising for Educational Institutions It?s safe to say that the vast majority of teenagers in the United States aspire to attend university or college one day. Even if they may be too young to really see the enormous benefits of furthering their education, it?s highly likely that their parents or caretakers will be looking out for their best interests? and where are they all looking? Online! The bulk of the population, from hopeful teens to anxious moms and dads are online searching, at this very moment, for an educational institution to meet their needs. All of these institutions, however, are competing for new enrollments. Think about how many universities and colleges there are in your state alone. That?s a lot of competition. So, what are they all doing to attract sign ups? What are they doing to target prospects online? Surprisingly, not a whole lot?

Marketing Weaknesses of Universities and Colleges

Based on our research, educational institutions are really not taking full advantage of the authority they have online. Most of the CMS?s (Content Management Systems) they use are outdated. The content is not well optimized for Google ?to be able to crawl and index accordingly. They have a lot of server issues. The calls to action are too weak to convert prospective students into enrolled students. The web based sign up forms are not user friendly. The list goes on. And to top it all off, there is little, if any, coherency across departments, which leads to consistency issues. Think about a university with 50, 000 students. The college of business has no idea what the college of engineering is doing with regard to marketing efforts. They have separate budgets, separate systems and separate people. Politely put, it?s a mess.

Taking Advantage of the Authority

Why do universities and accredited colleges have such high online authority? Simple. They have .edu sites. These sites are filled with professors with all the citations in the world. Search engine giants such as Google, Bing and Yahoo see .edu sites as authoritative simply because they?re run by educational institutions. The more authority you have online, the greater chances you have of ranking on Page 1 for select keywords that your prospective students type into the search query box. Once you rank for these targeted terms, you will have greater online visibility and you will drive more targeted traffic to your site. Targeted traffic yields greater conversions, i.e. enrollments, in the case of educational institutions.

Unfortunately, ?due to the technical and operational weaknesses mentioned earlier, these institutions are not using the authority they have to their advantage. So, the question is how can universities and colleges improve their advertising / marketing efforts? What can they do to be more competitive online and to get in front of prospective students?

Here are 4 suggestions to help get you started:

1.??? Identify Goals

First and foremost, you need to ask yourself the following question; what is your ultimate goal? Let?s be honest. There is only one real objective of any university or college from a financial standpoint; new enrollments. How can you get these enrollments online? Form submissions? Catalog requests or phone calls? How many will you need to attain your enrollment goals?? What are your enrollment goals?? How much are you willing to invest to achieve your enrollment goals?

2.??? SEO (Search Engine Optimization) seo for colleges universities

How does it work? SEO enhances your web presence by making it easy for the search engines and people to understand your .edu site and also, so that it can compete amidst the millions of competitors? on the Internet. It is also imperative that you optimize your website, making sure that all pages communicate with one another and with the search engines. This means making it easy to navigate for both users and search engines. Conducting keyword research and including those keywords in your titles, descriptions, and meta data will further optimize your website. However, there must be a balance. You don?t want to over-optimize your website because that will ultimately hurt your visibility. The best way to ensure that your site is crawled, indexed and ultimately made visible by Google is to publish and promote informative, relevant and original articles about different aspects of the educational system and all of the different niches your college or university is involved with.

3.??? Sponsored Search

Sponsored search is otherwise known as Paid Search or PPC (Pay per Click). This strategy utilizes the ad space on the first page of results. By bidding on targeted keywords, such as the name of your institution and/or different programs you offer, you can increase your visibility and generate more leads for different programs you offer. The key is to make sure everything is relevant. Your keywords must be relative to your niche, your ads to your keywords, your landing pages to your ads and so on and so forth. The best thing about PPC is that you can track your efforts. By calculating the CPA (cost per acquisition) and the CPM (cost per impression (the number of times your ad is shown)), you can determine how effective your ads and landing pages are at generating leads and conversions. It?s all about being relevant and providing attractive offers.

4.??? Social Media

Social signals have been confirmed by Google as a factor that weighs heavily in the search results. You must be active on popular social media networks; especially Facebook. It?s a goldmine. Unfortunately, however, it?s underutilized. There are countless opportunities for educational institutions on Facebook. For example, if you?re the School of Music, it?s as simple as targeting teens between the ages of 15-18 that like the violin, for instance. If you?re the School of Business and Finance, it?s as simple as targeting teens between the ages of 15-18 that like numbers, mathematics and finance. You can get as deep and as targeted as you want. You can even target by location if you wish to only attract people from your state, if you are a state school, or get even more targeted, focusing on local towns if you are a community college.

? So there you have it. There are a handful of other advertising channels that can be utilized online. However, the strategy and the structure need to be accurate. You can?t just do all of the above and not have good lead tracking system or a follow up system. Contact us and we?ll build you a customized, advanced marketing / advertising strategy.
